California Real Estate Primer
Published in Paperback by Real Estate Primer Pub (15 March, 1998)
Author: Ray D. Westcott
Average review score:

THE ONLY WAY TO PASS THE CALIFORNIA SALESMAN EXAM!
This book is precise and to the point. The book is very well written, organized very well and has one object in mind - helping you to learn real estate rules and passing the salesman exam.

The Real Estate Primer is also an excellant tool for somebody who wants to improve their knowledge of real estate terminology, laws and procedures.

After each short chapter you will find questions which can easily be answered or you may choose, as I did, to fill in the answers and then study the question with the proper answer thereby reinforcing your understanding of the chapter.

I passed the exam the first time after reading through this book. I have used it many times since for review and to look up specific areas.

It is A MUST for anyone taking the sales exam.

A Camera Repairman's Guide to Practical Photography
Published in Paperback by Grassroots Pub (December, 1991)
Author: Ray Oberreuter
Average review score:

Full to the brim with info
I got this book (copyright 1990) about 8 years ago and have browsed it from time to time. I checked this site to see if there was a later edition (apparently not). Author is a gadfly who has many critical, even cynical, things to say about camera manufacturers, photography magazines, etc. There is something very believable about his tone and his assertions. I have no doubt that the tips on purchasing cameras and lenses will pay for the book the first time you dip into it even if you only read one of its 178 pages. The book apparently is self-published, or at least self-produced, on a crude word-processor font, replete with typos, misspellings, and often ugly layout. Who cares? This is the real deal.

The Canoe Handbook: Techniques for Mastering the Sport of Canoeing
Published in Paperback by Stackpole Books (February, 1992)
Author: Slim Ray
Average review score:

Excellent resource for wide variety of paddling info
While this title may contain too much information for someone who has never paddled a canoe, it is an excellent resource for those who have paddled a bit but have never had formal instruction. There is detailed instruction on a variety of strokes as well as identifying, entering and peeling out of eddies. There is also very important info about reading water and identifying hazards such as undercut rocks, strainers, hydraulics etc. Also included is basic instruction on water-reading. This book has made it much easier for me to teach less experienced paddlers. If you've been in a canoe enough to know how to get down an easy river, this book will likely have parts that are under and over your head. If you're somewhere between beginner and expert, this book is definitely worth reading.

Authors: Ray Gibson, Paula Borton, and R. Gee
Average review score:

Having fun and learning to read!
I am ordering the rest of the books in this series! Sometimes my 4 year old daughter "knows" when we are trying to teach her to read and will nix the idea. With this book she "loves" to play the games and doesn't realize she is reading! The stories and illustrations are great! A+

GREAT BOOK
This book was given to me when I was only 4 years old...two decades later, I still think this is one of the greatest children's books created.

The Catching Self (Folly Cove Chapbook Originals)
Published in Paperback by Folly Cove Books (01 November, 1996)
Authors: John J. Ronan, Sandra Ronan, Deborah Citron-Stevens, and Ray Bentley
Average review score:

A Poetic Gem
I "discovered" The Catching Self by accident, and consider it a great "find." The poems are intelligent, mature, and accessible. Or...as Linda Paston comments on the book's back cover, "very good indeed; original, assured, just a touch sardonic." Quite a relief from the shallow and cryptic poetry that's generally being published now. I read in the Boston Globe recently that the poet, John Ronan, won a 1999 National Endowment for the Arts Fellowship. Maybe the award will motivate him to publish another collection. I want to read more!!

Celebrando la Respiracion

Average review score:

A Certain Tendency of the Hollywood Cinema, 1930-1980
Published in Paperback by Princeton Univ Pr (01 May, 1985)
Author: Robert B. Ray
Average review score:

Ray is a genius
A Certain Tendancy of the Hollywood Cinema is without doubt one of the finest books that I have ever read. Ray enlightens and entertains like a true master. Ray's crisp prose opens up a new world of understanding and thought about Hollywood. He makes old ideas seem new while providing new ones. Anyone who has ever seen a movie should read this book. After reading this book, you will never view the silver screen the same way again. Movies will become infinitly more enjoyable as you understand them on the deepest levels of their creators. A Certain Tendancy of the Hollywood Cinema is a true tour de force.
